Delegate Dwyer Prefiles Marriage Protection Act
Delegate Don Dwyer of Anne Arundel County and co-sponsors
have prefiled "Maryland's Marriage Protection Act" in preparation
for the 2006 legislative session.
"Maryland's Marriage Protection Act" is a constitutional amendment
that defines legal marriage in the state as between one man and
one woman. The bill differs from last year's "Valid Marriages" bill
in that it includes language that also prohibits recognition of
civil unions.

Same
Sex Marriage Defies Common Sense I and millions of others —
Democrat and Republican — believe same-sex marriage is wrong. Some
oppose it for social reasons. Sociologists in the Netherlands, where
gay marriage was legalized more than a decade ago, tell us that
same-sex marriage has significantly contributed to the decline of
marriages throughout the nation.
Some oppose it for historical
reasons. After thousands of years of mankind experimenting with
various arrangements, the one-woman, one-man marriage has proven
the best, overall, at stabilizing the community, respecting women’s
rights, and producing healthy offspring.

Protest
vote livens session's opening day
On an opening day of the General Assembly normally reserved for
niceties, the county's legislative delegation split yesterday over
a Republican-staged "protest" vote aimed at unseating the speaker
of the House. Dels. Don Dwyer of Glen Burnie and Tony McConkey of
Severna Park joined their fellow Republicans in opposing the speaker.
Anne Arundel County's five other Republican delegates abstained
because they couldn't nominate their own candidate. "We
set a precedent today that the Republican caucus is no longer willing
to let tyranny rule the House," Mr. Dwyer said. 1-12-06

Break
Point with Chuck Coulson One
step at a time: Maryland and same-sex ‘marriage’ Maryland
Governor Robert Ehrlich hasn’t yet indicated whether he’ll sign
the Medical Decision Making Act. He still has time to veto it, and
I sincerely hope he does. And Delegate Donald Dwyer is planning
a referendum drive to bring the issue directly to the people of
Maryland. So the good news is that this bill is not yet a law, and
there’s a lot we can do to help stop it from becoming one.

Del. Don Dwyer Jr., R-Glen

to specify that marriage is only between a man and a woman. But
Democrats stuffed him at every turn. They even did a sketch in the
legislative follies depicting Mr. Dwyer marrying another anti-gay
marriage male delegate in San Francisco, to which the fake spouse
responded by asking for an annulment. Now Mr. Dwyer has started
a petition drive to repeal the legislature's domestic partner registry,
which would allow gay couples to visit each other in the hospital
and participate in burial decisions.
