Delegate Dwyer on G.G Liddy Radio

May 2, 2005 Delegate Dwyer committed on national radio to sponsor a repeal of the Maryland law that mandates health education in Maryland's public schools. This comes following a Montgomery County School Board decision to teach the application of condoms to children as young as 12 years old. Click here for more information on Montgomery County schools

May 5, 2005 Maryland County Wrangles Over Health Class Curriculum. Some of the fiercest hand-to-hand combat in today's culture wars takes place in the public schools. As part of an NPR-wide series on Christianity and the public square, we examine the fight over health class in Maryland's Montgomery County. I gave a speech to the parents in Montgomery County Maryland. This speech was in opposition to the School Board's decision that homosexuality could be included in the Health curriculum. NPR recorded the speach.

Southern Maryland Online MD Delegate Dwyer Prefiles Marriage Protection Act   Delegate Don Dwyer of Anne Arundel County and co-sponsors have prefiled "Maryland's Marriage Protection Act" in preparation for the 2006 legislative session.
"Maryland's Marriage Protection Act" is a constitutional amendment that defines legal marriage in the state as between one man and one woman. The bill differs from last year's "Valid Marriages" bill in that it includes language that also prohibits recognition of civil unions.

Examiner Same Sex Marriage Defies Common Sense I and millions of others — Democrat and Republican — believe same-sex marriage is wrong. Some oppose it for social reasons. Sociologists in the Netherlands, where gay marriage was legalized more than a decade ago, tell us that same-sex marriage has significantly contributed to the decline of marriages throughout the nation.

Some oppose it for historical reasons. After thousands of years of mankind experimenting with various arrangements, the one-woman, one-man marriage has proven the best, overall, at stabilizing the community, respecting women’s rights, and producing healthy offspring.

Capital Protest vote livens session's opening day
On an opening day of the General Assembly normally reserved for niceties, the county's legislative delegation split yesterday over a Republican-staged "protest" vote aimed at unseating the speaker of the House. Dels. Don Dwyer of Glen Burnie and Tony McConkey of Severna Park joined their fellow Republicans in opposing the speaker. Anne Arundel County's five other Republican delegates abstained because they couldn't nominate their own candidate. "We set a precedent today that the Republican caucus is no longer willing to let tyranny rule the House," Mr. Dwyer said. 1-12-06

Maryland Gazette Dwyer building '06 GOP ticket for District 31   Del. Don Dwyer has started putting together a slate of Republican District 31 candidates for the 2006 General Assembly elections. The first to join the ticket is Pat Corcoran of Glen Burnie, a 48-year-old terminal services director for the Maryland Aviation Administration at BWI.

Capital Dwyer's legislation draws chilly response

Del. Don Dwyer Jr. got a cool reception from the county delegation yesterday when he pushed a bill stripping the state's Department of Natural Resources of policing power.

Maryland Gazette  Panel grills DNR officials over deer seizure State lawmakers had some tough questions for Department of Natural Resources officials yesterday as they took up a bill that would require the agency to gain approval from an oversight panel before changing regulations.

The bill, crafted by Del. Don Dwyer Jr., R-Glen Burnie, comes in the wake of the killing of 18 deer owned by north county residents last fall. 3-12-05

Don Dwyer Jr., R-Glen Burnie, launched a five-page inquiry into DNR's actions in October, soon after hearing of the situation. Among other things, Mr. Dwyer argued the three families were denied due process. He was told he would have an answer to his inquiry by mid-December, but that never happened. The families involved said they are gearing up for a lawsuit against DNR. None of the deer ordered to be killed by DNR officers tested positive for CWD.

Break Point with Chuck Coulson One step at a time: Maryland and same-sex ‘marriage’ Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich hasn’t yet indicated whether he’ll sign the Medical Decision Making Act. He still has time to veto it, and I sincerely hope he does. And Delegate Donald Dwyer is planning a referendum drive to bring the issue directly to the people of Maryland. So the good news is that this bill is not yet a law, and there’s a lot we can do to help stop it from becoming one.

Associated Press Impact of Md. Petition Drive Failure on Election Unclear "Having a ballot initiative would have brought in a lot of out-of-state money ... and would have potentially influenced voter turnout in the 2006 gubernatorial election," Schaller said. "The collapse of the Dwyer referendum effort should cause a sigh of relief for Democrats."

Capital 1,000 rally for law to prevent gay marriage With cries of "Amen!" and "Hallelujah!" about 1,000 people rallied in Annapolis Thursday to urge lawmakers to support a referendum defining marriage as between a man and a woman in the state constitution. "Civil unions is nothing but a euphemism for homosexual marriage," the Rev. Lou Sheldon, founder of the national Traditional Values Coalition, exhorted the crowd that turned out despite frigid conditions. "We must rise." 1-29-05

Capital Left At The Altar Award

Del. Don Dwyer Jr., R-Glen Burnie, tried six ways to Sunday to get the state constitution amended to specify that marriage is only between a man and a woman. But Democrats stuffed him at every turn. They even did a sketch in the legislative follies depicting Mr. Dwyer marrying another anti-gay marriage male delegate in San Francisco, to which the fake spouse responded by asking for an annulment. Now Mr. Dwyer has started a petition drive to repeal the legislature's domestic partner registry, which would allow gay couples to visit each other in the hospital and participate in burial decisions.

Tilting at the Scales of Justice   Local zealot and pious pol, Don Dwyer , has decided to throw in with non-local zealot, and former Alabama Judge, Roy Moore, in the fight to protect us from the Constitution . Mr. Dwyer, a member of the Maryland General Assembly, representing Glen Burnie, has drafted a resolution that “would call on Congress to pass a law preventing the federal judiciary from hearing cases involving the public display of the Ten Commandments and the pledge of allegiance,” called the "Maryland Religious Independence from Federal Courts Act."

Dems charge vetoes cater to right wing, eye overrides

After high-profile vetoes last week that included two gay-rights bills, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) burnished his conservative credentials but had Democrats charging that he was shedding his carefully cultivated moderate image.

With a trial court ruling likely in the ACLU lawsuit seeking to legalize gay marriage, conservatives led by Del. Donald H. Dwyer Jr. (R-Dist. 31) of Glen Burnie are promising a renewed effort to put a constitutional ban on next year's ballot. Dwyer and other conservatives held a news conference Wednesday vowing to continue with efforts to petition four gay-rights bills to next year's ballot -- two signed by Ehrlich and two he vetoed.

"I was certainly grateful that [Ehrlich] kept the position that he did and allowed the moral conservatives to be heard," Dwyer said.

Voting rule could cost Montgomery   It is unclear how many noncitizens are on the rolls or if there are any databases that could be cross-checked with the state's rolls. The issue came to light after a juror was found to be a noncitizen in a Howard County murder case. Del. Donald H. Dwyer Jr. (R-Dist. 31) of Glen Burnie wrote to the state Board of Elections and to the Motor Vehicle Administration seeking to ensure that noncitizens not be included on voter rolls.
